Pre Sneaks in Through Apple’s Backdoor….no, thats not innuendo
So a few days ago when we relayed the whole Palm Pre/I-tunes BFF story we were taking Palm’s description of its I-tunes sync capabilities to mean there was a well made and fully integrated legitimate sync going on there. Well, again we’ve been taught our lesson about taking what a phone manufacturer or cell phone service provider says to mean the 100% Bob’s honest truth.
So here’s the scoop. When identifying itself to I-tunes, the Mass storage interface claims to be an Ipod, BUUUTTT the Root USB node is still wearing his, “Hello My Name is Palm Pre”-sticker from his AA meeting. In layman’s terms, Palm robbed a bank wearing a ski mask and his lucky social security number t-shirt. Thus leaving Apple with a way to catch him and tase him, bro. The latest Rev of I-tunes was released too late to provide a patch, but we should see in the coming weeks from beta testers and new owners everywhere whether or not they plug that sucker up.
All in all, yes Palm dropped the ball, but you really have to give them the old atta-boy. Instead of jumping through what one would assume to be ridiculous Apple hoops to get things all koshered up and official, they just went ahead and hacked the SunBi#ch in there. Nice work fellas! Now if you were nice enough hackers to allow me to hack this thing onto my Verizon contracted number….Pretty Pre-ease!!!!!
