Jailbreaking your Palm Pre?
So one of the questions that was burning on my mind was whether or not I was going to have to search for a jailbreak solution for the phone just to put the apps I wanted onto the device. The answer is: Probably Not!
This is great news! They aren’t being all ‘Apple’ about the situation and are actually trying to make this an open thing for the community to build. The iPhone world has to support two modes where you have the users who are led to believe jailbreaking is ‘illegal’ and those who know better. Those who know better were stuck using Installer (not well maintained) and an even crapier package handler called Cydia. As of late they’ve been blessed with a much faster versions, called Kryptes and ICY that are on the brink of an actual app store equivalent with USERS in mind. All this to avert the restrictions and pious attitude Apple pretends to front.
Phew, anyway, I saw this as quoted by http://www.precentral.net/palm-ceo-ed-colligan-talks-pre-investors:
“Not only will Palm have an app store at launch, they’re not locking down the device so you can only install apps from their app store. You’ll be able to “side load” apps directly over USB or over the air from any provider. Good news!”
So all of that will be unneccesary.
